I decided to race Yankee TT this year because I plan on racing two Xterra triathlons later in the summer and I haven’t raced a mountain bike in a while.  I have always liked the TT format at Yankee and the Race Director puts on a great race.

The race started out good with a goal of keeping a fast pace without crashing, all went according to plan until I got into the pines about halfway into the race. I am still not sure what happened, one second I’m on top of my bike the next it’s on top of me. I was somewhat dazed when my teammate Dwight came by. He stopped and made sure I was ok.  We rode out together a little slower than normal at first, but by the end of the race I was feeling good and pushing myself.

I ended up with a sub one hour time. While not my best showing, it was pretty good considering I was banged up and spent some of the race “under” my bike (instead of the other way around). I think I may need to spend a little more time on the mountain bike before racing Xterra.
